About the programme
The Bachelor of Agribusiness and Food Marketing is an NZQF Level 7 undergraduate degree at Lincoln University that prepares graduates for work along the entire agrifood value chain, from how food is produced to how it reaches and is sold to consumers. It carries 360 credits and takes 3 years of full-time study on the Lincoln University campus.
Lincoln describes it as the Southern Hemisphere's only specialised degree in food marketing. The programme responds to a growing need for more sustainable food production as populations rise and environmental pressures mount, and it sits close to one of New Zealand's biggest export industries.
Students combine economics, financial information, statistics and marketing with courses on food quality, food processing, the regulatory environment, logistics and supply chains. Later years move into marketing research, food product innovation, agribusiness strategy and the marketing of New Zealand products and services. Electives fill part of the plan, and an additional major may be possible after discussion with a course advisor.
Practical experience is built in: students complete 18 weeks of work in at least two different areas, with no more than 12 weeks in any one of them. Eligible settings include farms of all kinds (including vineyards and aquaculture), food factories, wineries and meat works, distribution and cool stores, and marketing, import-export, retail or wholesale businesses.
The degree suits people who want a business career around food and who are interested in linking production, product quality and markets with a clear view of sustainability in global food systems.
