About the programme
The Bachelor of Environmental Management with Honours is an NZQF Level 8 programme at Lincoln University: a year of advanced study after a bachelor's degree that builds the ability and leadership potential to identify and address environmental problems. It carries 120 credits and takes 1 year of full-time study on the Lincoln University campus.
The programme examines how societies design social, economic, legal and ethical institutions to care for the natural environment more effectively. Students learn to tell apart environmental management principles, tools and methods and to apply each appropriately across different scenarios, in Aotearoa New Zealand and elsewhere.
The programme comprises 80 credits of 600-level coursework (four courses) and a 40-credit dissertation at the same level. The compulsory course is Advanced Theory in Resource Studies. Students add one social science research methods course, either quantitative or qualitative, and two electives drawn from master's-level courses offered across the university. This combination brings together theory, research methods and a personal specialisation, while the dissertation forms an independent research project. Lincoln recommends checking choices with a course advisor so that they form a coherent programme.
The programme suits high-achieving graduates who want to go deeper into environmental management, learn research methods and complete their own research, including those considering further research in the field.
