About the programme
The Diploma in Commerce is an NZQF Level 5 programme at Lincoln University that builds a firm understanding of commerce principles and how they apply in business. It carries 120 credits and normally takes 1 year of full-time study.
The diploma introduces several of the university's commerce majors and can serve either to broaden career prospects or as a foundation for further study. Students can take courses in accounting and finance, global business, hotel and tourism management, marketing and supply chain management, as well as other Bachelor of Commerce courses.
Students must pass eight courses at 100 or 200 level, totalling 120 credits, carrying the prefixes ACCT, BMGT, COMM, ECON, FINC, LINC, MGMT, MKTG or VAPM. With permission, up to three courses (45 credits) can come from other degree programmes. Prerequisites need checking when choosing courses.
The course list is wide. It covers accounting fundamentals, financial and management accounting, financial management and investments; markets, macroeconomic policy, international trade and land economics; management principles, human resources, productivity, sustainable sourcing and food and beverage management; and marketing, consumer behaviour, social marketing and ethics, and logistics. There is also an agrifood strand, including primary industry and global food systems and agribusiness, and a property strand covering urban property management, real estate marketing and urban and rural valuation.
It suits people who want a year of business education and the freedom to set its focus, whether finance, economics, marketing, agribusiness or property.
