About the programme
The Bachelor of Commerce (Supply Chain Management) is an NZQF Level 7 undergraduate degree at Lincoln University that develops specialists in logistics and supply chain management. It carries 360 credits and takes 3 years of full-time study on the Lincoln University campus; graduates receive a Bachelor of Commerce with a Supply Chain Management major.
Supply chains underpin every production, distribution and manufacturing operation, so the major is relevant to a very wide range of organisations. It also benefits from Lincoln's reputation in the primary industries. Students gain practical knowledge of logistics and supply chains along with the management skills and systems thinking needed to run complex global networks.
The degree shows how a fully coordinated product-to-market system operates and how to apply that understanding in any industry, from food and raw materials to engineering and technology products. Graduates should be able to use a systems approach to design and improve a global value chain, identify where value is created or lost, measure and raise performance, and understand sustainable supply practices and the legal framework of logistics.
After the commerce core in year one, students study sustainable sourcing, logistics management and productivity management, followed in year three by quality systems, supply chain management and supply chain system optimisation. Lincoln reports that it is the only university with a Memorandum of Understanding with Kuehne + Nagel, one of the world's largest logistics companies, which offers US internships to graduates of this major. An additional major or minor may be possible.
