About the programme

The Master of Management (Construction Project Management) is an NZQF Level 9 degree at ICL Graduate Business School that combines general management with advanced training in running construction and infrastructure projects. It is worth 180 credits and takes 12 months.

The programme is aimed at people with a first degree in business or management, or in construction, engineering or a neighbouring field. It blends core management and leadership principles with specialist know-how in scheduling, budget control, purchasing and on-site delivery. Students assess current management theory and learn to bring strategic and analytical thinking to complex projects in a fast-changing environment.

Particular attention goes to planning, risk management and sustainability, along with approaches that are culturally responsive and relevant internationally. Graduates are expected to manage a project across its whole lifecycle, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors and stakeholders, and stay compliant with regulations, workplace safety rules and sustainability standards, all while finishing on time, on budget and to the required quality.

The curriculum consists of eight 15-credit papers — among them AI-driven construction planning and risk management, and sustainable, resilient infrastructure — plus a 60-credit applied project. Study runs over three 16-week trimesters. Students must bring their own laptop or tablet.

Graduates should also be able to interpret and report on project figures, budgets, timelines and risk reviews so that decisions rest on evidence.
