About the programme
The Bachelor of Science with Honours is an NZQF Level 8 programme at Lincoln University: a one-year qualification for students who have already finished a relevant undergraduate degree, usually a Bachelor of Science. It carries 120 credits and takes 1 year of full-time study.
The programme pairs applied science for land-based industries with deeper study of how natural resources such as land, water and air are managed and conserved sustainably. A research dissertation is at the core of the year.
The plan consists of 80 credits of 600-level courses (four courses) and a 40-credit dissertation. At least 60 course credits must come from science subject areas such as animal science, biochemistry, biology, ecology, genetics, horticulture, microbiology, soil science, food science, quantitative methods or wine science, with a few resource and law courses also permitted. The dissertation sits in the chosen discipline, and the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences publishes a list of possible projects.
Students choose courses to match their interests, but the result must be coherent and meet the regulations, so selections are planned with a course advisor. In practice, the four 20-credit courses and the dissertation topic are chosen to form one line of study rather than a scattered set of subjects. ERST 621, ERST 631 and LWST 602 are also accepted alongside the main science prefixes.
It suits graduates with strong grades who want to specialise in one scientific field, complete a supervised research project and broaden their grasp of how science is applied in land-based sectors.
