About the programme
The Master of Applied Science is an NZQF level 9 research master's at Lincoln University in New Zealand that lets students build their studies across several applied fields and finish with their own research. The standard route is 240 credits over two years of full-time study.
Lincoln emphasises research and offers programmes that link different subjects relevant to the future of the planet and its natural resources. Within this degree, students can combine study and practical application in agriculture, industry, communications, recreation and tourism, and relate them to international rural development and to managing and conserving the biosphere and natural resources.
Students pick one of the established specialisations — Environmental Management, Land and Society, or Parks, Recreation and Tourism — or design their own programme together with a supervisor.
On the two-year route, about 120 credits come from taught courses listed in the degree regulations and 120 from a thesis, with the first year used for research preparation. Applicants who already hold an honours degree can take a thesis-only route of at least 120 credits, which may offer extra start points depending on supervisor availability. Study takes place on the Lincoln University campus.
The programme suits graduates who want to research questions where land use, society and the economy meet, while keeping flexibility over their direction.
