About the programme
The Bachelor of Sport & Recreation Management (Honours) is an NZQF Level 8 programme at Lincoln University: a one-year advanced qualification for graduates of a relevant bachelor's degree. It carries 120 credits over 1 year of full-time study.
The programme deepens understanding of the sport and recreation sector in all its variety and complexity. Students examine how policy bodies, political systems and economic and environmental change shape business decisions and long-term planning in sport and leisure.
Much of the year is devoted to research capability. Students sharpen their quantitative and qualitative analysis, practise solving both theoretical and applied problems, and carry out advanced research. The university notes that this preparation can lead on to doctoral (PhD) study.
The plan includes the compulsory 20-credit course Advanced Sport and Recreation Management, a 40-credit dissertation, two courses from a set list — sport and fitness, natural resource recreation and tourism, events and festivals, or quantitative or qualitative social research methods — and one elective from the university's master's-level courses. In total that is four 600-level courses worth 80 credits plus the dissertation.
It suits high-achieving graduates who want to work at an advanced level in sport and recreation management. Course choices are agreed with a course advisor so the programme remains coherent.
