About the programme
The Bachelor of Tourism Management (Honours) is an NZQF Level 8 programme at Lincoln University: a one-year advanced qualification for graduates preparing for management, planning and leadership roles in tourism. It carries 120 credits over 1 year of full-time study.
The university describes its tourism management programmes as internationally recognised, and tourism as a major global industry where there is demand for university-educated professionals who understand its dynamics and needs. The Honours year builds the capability needed for senior management, planning, leadership, advisory and research positions in Aotearoa New Zealand's tourism sector and beyond.
The structure is straightforward. Two compulsory 600-level courses, Tourism Management and Tourist Behaviour, carry 20 credits each. Students add a social science research methods course, either quantitative or qualitative, and one elective drawn from the university's master's-level courses. A 40-credit dissertation completes the year, giving four courses worth 80 credits plus the research component.
This mix combines subject knowledge of tourism management and visitor behaviour with the research methodology needed for independent investigation. Course choices are agreed with a course advisor to keep the programme coherent.
It is aimed at high-achieving graduates of a relevant degree who want to move into more senior tourism roles or to research the industry.
