Skill New Zealand is a private training establishment in Manukau, South Auckland, operating since 1993, offering English language study through ILN ELT, PELT and NZCEL and programmes in health and wellbeing.
About
Since 1993 Skill New Zealand has taught learners from a wide mix of backgrounds and at many different points in their education. Its work now centres on two areas: English language, through the ILN ELT, PELT and NZCEL programmes, and Health and Wellbeing programmes that lead on to employment or further study.
The organisation sees its role as opening up good-quality education to people whatever their background or earlier experience. It relies on practical teaching and individual support so that graduates feel confident both in their chosen field and in the wider community. In its own words, Skill NZ aims to rank among the leading education providers in Aotearoa New Zealand, and it points to innovation, up-to-date course content and strong teaching as the means of getting there, to the benefit of learners, partners and local communities alike.
Classes are small and well equipped, and tutors draw on professional as well as lived experience. Skill NZ names five values behind its work — integrity, creativity, courage, passion and acceptance — and its campuses include shared study areas where students from different programmes can mix.
Skill New Zealand is a Pasifika Training Provider, enrols both domestic and international learners and puts weight on culturally inclusive support. Study can be on campus or in a blended format.
What stands out
- Three English programmes. ILN ELT, PELT and NZCEL build English for daily life, further study and work in New Zealand.
- Health with placement. Health and Wellbeing programmes include a 200-hour placement and prepare students for roles across health, wellbeing and community services; past students include graduates of the Diploma in Health & Wellbeing.
- Four Auckland campuses. The main campus is in Manukau, while the Albany, Botany and Auckland City sites are dedicated to English study.
- Flexible delivery. Campus classes can be combined with blended learning to fit around other commitments.
Campus and study
The main campus, at 33 Lambie Drive in Manukau, hosts every programme. Three further campuses teach English only: Albany at 229 Dairy Flat Highway, Botany on the first floor of Botany Town Centre at 588 Chapel Road, and Auckland City on the tenth floor of 67 Symonds Street. The learning spaces are set up both for study and for getting to know fellow students.
For international students
Skill New Zealand accepts international learners. Newcomers studying the language will find the English programmes geared to three goals at once — everyday life, further study and employment in New Zealand — and three of the four campuses are given over to English. The emphasis throughout is on personal, culturally inclusive support in small groups.
