About the programme

The New Zealand Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (Applied Practice) Level 5 is an NZQF Level 5 programme at Skill New Zealand (Whitecliffe) that prepares learners for more senior roles across New Zealand's health and wellbeing sector. It is worth 120 credits and runs for 46 weeks of full-time study.

The diploma centres on applied practice, culturally responsive care and support grounded in evidence. Learners examine the social, cultural and political forces that shape health, explore Te Ao Māori and related health practices, learn to choose support strategies backed by research, and develop leadership skills and a habit of continuously improving their practice.

Classroom learning is paired with work-integrated learning: every learner completes 200 hours of placement in a suitable health or wellbeing organisation. Study can be fully on campus with scheduled classes, or blended, combining online study with campus sessions for those balancing work or whānau commitments.

The programme is aimed at people already working in health and wellbeing who want to step up, and at learners seeking specialised skills for a range of health and community settings. Graduates go on to work in community and non-government organisations, residential services, social services and other parts of the sector.
