About the programme
The Graduate Diploma in Resource Studies is an NZQF Level 7 programme at Lincoln University for degree holders who want an advanced understanding of how economy, society and ecology relate to and affect one another. It carries 120 credits and normally takes 1 year of full-time study.
The programme focuses on environmental decision-making, which is shaped by fluid and shifting relationships. Students examine the economic, ecological and social sides of these processes so they can contribute to them with real understanding.
The university notes that studying and interpreting environmental issues is a fast-growing field of interest in New Zealand and internationally, and that career opportunities are increasing in the private sector as well as in local and central government.
Students need 120 credits, at least 75 at 300 level and no more than 15 at 100 level. The university recommends Bachelor of Environmental Management courses as electives. At least four courses are chosen from a core list: business and sustainability, environmental planning, resource management law, professional practice, environmental policy, and Māori environmental management (Te Kaitiakitaka). A course advisor helps ensure the choices form a coherent programme.
It suits graduates from a range of fields who want to work on environmental issues where economics, law, policy and society meet, for example in planning, resource management or advisory work.
