About the programme
The Master of Fintech and Investment Management is an NZQF level 9 programme at Lincoln University in New Zealand that builds advanced knowledge of financial technology, investment strategy and new business models, including in agribusiness, through 180 credits of study. Depending on the start point, it takes 12 to 18 months of full-time study.
Financial technology and innovation are reshaping the global economy: banking, investment and commerce increasingly run on data, with transaction records held on blockchain platforms. The programme teaches students to evaluate and apply fintech priorities across finance, investment, IT and agriculture, and to help businesses, agribusinesses among them, grow through disruptive technology and lean, data-driven models.
Students learn how blockchain is changing workflows and global payments, and take specialist courses in investment management, software development, big data, machine learning and AI, along with solid training in fintech business analysis. The shifting regulatory and legal landscape, cyber security and policy issues are also covered. Practical experience comes from current fintech research and an industry placement: at the end, students choose either a research essay or a research placement.
Before moving on to the compulsory specialist courses, students complete 60 credits of underpinning courses. Those without a relevant bachelor's degree may need supplementary study before or alongside the programme. Teaching is on the Lincoln University campus.
The degree suits both people with a conventional finance background who want to upskill and graduates from unrelated fields.
