About the programme

The Bachelor of Creativity is an NZQF Level 7 programme at Whitireia & WelTec that builds practical design skills for turning ideas into finished work over three years of full-time study (360 credits). Students pick one of two majors, Digital Media & Design or Animation, and part-time options are available.

The programme is hands-on and draws on arts-based techniques to help students produce original design work. Projects come in three forms: individual briefs, work for real clients and collaborations with other creative students. Together they add up to a portfolio ready to show employers. Teaching takes place at the Te Awakairangi campus in Petone, Wellington.

Students benefit from a sufficiently capable laptop and Adobe Creative Cloud. For those just starting out in creative study, the institute recommends first completing the New Zealand Certificate in Creativity Level 4 or equivalent. The degree suits people aiming for careers in animation, motion graphics, game design, graphic and multimedia design, or video and content production. Graduates can go on to the Level 9 Master of Design.
