About the programme
The Master of Software Engineering is a NZQF Level 9 programme at Yoobee Colleges worth 180 credits that develops adaptable, creative software specialists over 45 weeks in three trimesters, with a focus on quantum computing, cloud security, data analytics and blockchain.
Trimester one concentrates on hands-on technical skills: programming language syntax, object-oriented concepts, core algorithms, software engineering models and design patterns in C++ and Java. Students work in teams on a product development project that also builds communication and collaboration. Alongside this they take quantum computing and research methods, where they shape the topic of their final project.
Trimester two covers data analytics and machine learning, blockchain and decentralised digital identity including cryptocurrencies, token economics and smart contracts, cloud security, and intelligent transportation systems using AI, IoT and computer vision. Trimester three is an industry-based research project: the first five weeks go to writing a proposal or selecting a problem from industry, and the remaining ten to delivering it.
Learning is project-based and classes are scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays. Students use open-source software, get access to the IEEE Computer Society Digital Library and O'Reilly, and bring their own laptop. The college's industry partners include IBM, AWS and Fortinet. An online preparatory course is available on request. The programme runs at the Auckland and Christchurch campuses.
