About the programme
The Master of Agricultural Science (Research) is an NZQF level 9 programme at Lincoln University in New Zealand that combines advanced study of the sciences behind agricultural production with an independent research project. The standard route is 240 credits over two years of full-time study.
Agriculture and agribusiness worldwide are facing new pressures and opportunities, and the sector increasingly needs science-led management that pairs commercial sense with deep subject knowledge and innovation. Lincoln describes primary industries as central to New Zealand's economy, both today and in the future.
The programme prepares graduates to act as agricultural professionals who can deliver products meeting the quality standards and expectations of international markets. Its focus is advanced coursework and research in the fields that drive agricultural production and development.
On the two-year route, around 120 credits come from taught courses listed in the degree regulations and 120 credits from a thesis, with the first year serving as preparation for research. A thesis-only option of at least 120 credits is also available, and it may allow additional start points depending on supervisor availability. Lincoln publishes a list of potential supervisors. Study is based on the Lincoln University campus.
The degree suits graduates of relevant bachelor's and honours programmes who want to pursue agricultural research or move into science-based management of farm production.
