About the programme
The Master of Environment and Agriculture is an NZQF level 9 programme at Lincoln University in New Zealand that teaches students to tackle complex problems where farming and the environment meet, over 180 credits and a minimum of 12 months of full-time study.
The programme offers practical, research-informed knowledge of agricultural science, environmental management and policy. It aims to produce graduates who drive change in land-based industries, promote innovation and resilience in agriculture, and protect the wellbeing of the environment and communities. Topics range from environmental management and agricultural science to Māori agribusiness.
Students examine how farming practices affect environmental health, combine research and practical skills, gain a grounding in Māori environmental management and agribusiness, and learn to shape policy and public debate. Ethical and critical thinking is developed so graduates can work through the socio-economic, cultural and political conditions of producing healthy agrifoods.
The curriculum has 100 credits of compulsory courses and 80 credits from the Schedule B list (four courses), including new interdisciplinary courses created for this degree. Every student completes an individual supervised project — a research essay, placement or report — to explore a topic in depth and generate new knowledge. Teaching is on the Lincoln University campus with some online options. It is a taught master's without a thesis.
The programme suits graduates of relevant bachelor's degrees who want to work on sustainability in agriculture.
