About the programme
The Master of Commerce (Agricultural) (Research) is an industry-focused NZQF level 9 research programme at Lincoln University in New Zealand dealing with the business and management of agriculture. The standard route is 240 credits over two years of full-time study.
According to the university, agriculture, agribusiness and other primary industries earn more than half of New Zealand's export income. The degree aims to develop future leaders who will help the country's land-based sector keep competing in demanding and protected world markets. These industries matter both for New Zealand's international standing and for feeding a growing global population.
People working and leading in the sector need to combine advanced knowledge with sound practical application and professionalism. Students learn to run a farm business successfully and to understand the national and international issues that agribusiness managers face.
Normally 120 credits come from taught courses in the programme schedules and 120 from a thesis, with the first year used for research preparation. A thesis-only route of at least 120 credits is also available, and Lincoln publishes a list of potential supervisors. Study is on the Lincoln University campus.
The programme suits graduates of relevant bachelor's degrees who want leadership roles in agribusiness or research careers in the field.
