About the programme
The Master of Management in Agribusiness is an NZQF level 9 programme at Lincoln University in New Zealand that prepares leaders for internationally active agribusinesses through 180 credits and around 18 months of full-time study.
As global food production changes, the sector needs leaders who understand the complex links between land, agribusiness and the world trading environment. The programme shows students how to seize opportunities and deal with the constraints and challenges particular to agribusiness, giving them a firm grasp of the dynamics, analysis and management structures of bio-economic systems and of agribusiness products and services.
Students deepen their knowledge of agribusiness systems and value chains, examine current and emerging issues in the sector, ownership structures such as co-operatives, competitive strategies, and the frameworks and methods used to evaluate the industry. They learn to judge how well different value chains suit different settings and how interventions affect stakeholders along a chain. The degree builds interdisciplinary skills for senior roles in agribusiness in New Zealand and worldwide, along with communication at every level of an organisation, and it acknowledges different perspectives, including Māori.
The programme comprises nine postgraduate courses: four compulsory ones (international agribusiness systems, research for agricultural systems managers, agribusiness value chains and agribusiness organisations), a research essay or research placement, and four related electives. Teaching is on the Lincoln University campus, and the university recommends starting in Semester 1.
The degree suits graduates of relevant bachelor's programmes aiming for senior management in agribusiness.
