About the programme
The Bachelor of Business Information Systems (Healthcare) is an NZQF Level 7 degree at ICL Graduate Business School that prepares graduates to work where business, technology and healthcare meet. It carries 360 credits and takes 24 months.
On top of a grounding in information systems and business principles, students study how healthcare systems work, health information management and digital health technology. The programme teaches how to support healthcare organisations through data and digital tools, with an emphasis on ethical data handling, service improvement and well-informed decisions.
Three years of workload are fitted into six 16-week trimesters, made up of nine Level 5, nine Level 6 and five Level 7 papers. Credits are split between healthcare (90), business (105), information and communications technology (120), and research and application (45). Papers include patient-centred care and ethics, public health, digital health platforms and cybersecurity, and Māori and global perspectives on healthcare management. An applied project closes the degree.
It suits people who want to work with data and information systems in hospitals, government agencies, NGOs or private healthcare companies. Students need their own laptop or tablet.
Graduates should be able to design and implement information systems for healthcare delivery and health information management, use project management methods for digital and process improvements, and handle health data securely and ethically. The programme also develops communication and teamwork in multidisciplinary settings.
