About the programme
The Postgraduate Diploma in Business Informatics is an NZQF Level 8 programme at ICL Graduate Business School that combines business management, information systems and information technology in a single curriculum. It carries 120 credits and takes 12 months to complete.
Business informatics is treated here as an emerging discipline in its own right. Students learn how organisations actually function and, at the same time, how technology can be used to drive growth and innovation. The content is framed both for New Zealand and for the wider global setting, covering local business practice as well as international approaches to IT services.
The programme is made up of eight Level 8 papers worth 15 credits each. Together they cover business analysis and enterprise systems, design thinking and innovation, information security, IT service management, project management, business transformation and professional conduct. The year runs as three 16-week trimesters, not counting holidays, and students are expected to bring their own laptop or tablet.
The diploma is aimed at people who already hold a bachelor's degree or a graduate or postgraduate diploma in a business or IT field. It suits those who need further qualifications to move from a first degree into a business informatics career, and those who want a solid base before going on to a master's degree in a related area.
